Shera Summer is an abstract expressionist painter whose artwork
is greatly influenced by her love affair with coastal life, travel and the sea.Growing up on the east coast art was always a part of Shera’s life. Her many memories of days spent sailing the Chesapeake and traveling to beach towns up and down the east coast always played a part in her expression. After high school Shera studied Illustration, Interior Design and the Healing Arts which she feels adds an element of "striking a harmonic chord" to all of her creative endeavors.
In 2010 Shera moved to the west coast to California where the Pacific ocean and west coast living spoke to her passion and her artist's heart, breathing new life into her calling to create.As an artist Shera works primarily in acrylic and mixed media where coastal colors are often a part of her go to palette. Her process starts with music setting the stage for approaching a project with the energies of a playful adventure. From there she allows her intuition and the medium to lead the way layering movement, color and form and opening up to seeing what “wants to happen” next.
Her resulting artwork is intended to draw a viewer into a refreshing place of wonder, magic and rejuvenation in hopes to bring a little bit more joy and beauty into her collectors homes and the world.In 2020 Shera moved from Santa Barbara, California to Seattle where she is currently living near her son, daughter and son-in-law. There, she continues to explore coastal life and develop her craft. When Shera is not in the studio you can find her walking on a beach, exploring local shops, out on a run in the neighborhood, attending many of the area events or out having fun with family and friends.

I believe that in every moment something new is created and new stories are born to be shared.For myself, the stories born of my wildly romantic, playful heart come most alive when I am by the sea.
There is just something about the light, the salty misty air, the sounds of surf and seagulls, that stirs something in me and calls to my soul. I just can’t get enough of it!
When I'm not in the studio painting you can find her walking on the beach, exploring coastal town shops, neighborhoods & gardens and taking in the local cultures, harbors & marinas.As an abstract expressionist painter it is that world that most influences my art. Working primarily in acrylic and mixed media, coastal colors, sometimes bright and sun drenched, other times misty and dreamy, are often a part of my go to palette.My approach to a blank canvas is as if it is filled with the energies of expansion, adventure and freedom that I feel when I am by the ocean. I start with creating layers of color and form, allowing intuition and the medium to lead the way. Sometimes during this process chaos and curiosity seem to collide while other times dreamy moments wash over and pour out onto a canvas with ease.
My resulting artwork, I have found, can draw a viewer into its refreshing world of wonder, magic and rejuvenation.I love sharing my artwork and my love of exploring coastal life.
My hope is that my art uplifts your space and soul and fills your life with joyful happy moments and treasured stories to be told.

The call to create my own destiny and honor my true self calling while stripping away everything that is not really me has been strong as of late. I think that this mini series is about preparing for the new while still remembering to have fun with the adventure of it all. There are always new things on the horizon that are still unwritten.

There is just something about the light, the salty misty air, the sounds of surf and seagulls that speaks to my soul. I love watching the clouds dance across the sky casting their journey onto the ever changing colors of the sea. It's amazing how it all seems so much bigger than life and at the same time makes me feel alive.

Sometimes I just need to wrap myself in dreamy shades of turquoise and blue. My soul colors to be sure!
